Exploring good stories in Iceland With 85 registered participants from SYSCO’s departments throughout the Nordic region, there was a record delegation of the company’s employees who in October took a well- deserved break from the autumn’s work sessions and set the course against Iceland. HR Manager Kari Haaland Cheek was re- sponsible for this year’s trip and is very pleased that everything went according to plan, and not least for all the postive feed- back from the participating employees. – It is not easy to find a weekend for all employees being able to leave at the same time, so we are glad we found a time suiting so many. This obviously con- tributed a lot to the experience of the trip, says Cheek. With an organization that has grown 4 SYSCO – Good stories! 2017 strongly over the years, and is also spread over many locations in the Nordic region, it is not always easy to find time to be so- cial with colleagues. Besides the academic and social program, it was therefore a goal that the employ- ees should get acquainted with new col- leagues. In this regard, various types of ”social games” were set up together with competitions, which Cheek thinks worked very well and led to new combinations and friendship between the various par- ticipants. SYSCO has arranged tours abroad for its employees for several years, and has pre- viously traveled to both Malaga, Gdansk and London. Cheek thinks that this year’s trip came in a special class. – Iceland is not the most visited desti- nation for us Norwegians, so many of our employees experienced this amazing country for the first time, she explains. The team arrived Iceland on a Friday morning, and could therefore enjoy the first day with various activities. The par- ticipants could choose between driving ATVs, riding horses or sightseeing tour by bus in Reykjavik. datory visit to the ”Blue Lagoon” before returning home. Saturday there was also a guided bus tour around Iceland, touring the so-called Golden Circle. This was a trip where the group really got to see what this island nation has to offer of great nature ex- periences. Cheek is full of praise when describing the trip, and draws the expe- rience from the mighty Gullfoss and gey- sers as examples of absolute highlights. Sunday ended with the more or less man- Kari Haaland Cheek appreciates the good feedback from this year’s participants, and really looks forward to the next oppor- tunity to gather the employees for a sim- ilar event. – We always aim to find positive activities that create good stories for our employ- ees, she explains, but will not yet reveal neither the date nor the destination for the next event.
