Exploring Iceland: The SYSCO employees gatheres at the Pirvellir National Park in Iceland.
Exploring good stories in Iceland
With 85 registered participants
from SYSCO’s departments
throughout the Nordic region,
there was a record delegation
of the company’s employees
who in October took a well-
deserved break from the
autumn’s work sessions and
set the course against Iceland.
HR Manager Kari Haaland Cheek was re-
sponsible for this year’s trip and is very
pleased that everything went according to
plan, and not least for all the postive feed-
back from the participating employees.
– It is not easy to find a weekend for all
employees being able to leave at the
same time, so we are glad we found a
time suiting so many. This obviously con-
tributed a lot to the experience of the
trip, says Cheek.
With an organization that has grown

strongly over the years, and is also spread
over many locations in the Nordic region,
it is not always easy to find time to be so-
cial with colleagues.
Besides the academic and social program,
it was therefore a goal that the employ-
ees should get acquainted with new col-
leagues. In this regard, various types of
”social games” were set up together with
competitions, which Cheek thinks worked
very well and led to new combinations
and friendship between the various par-
ticipants.
SYSCO has arranged tours abroad for its
employees for several years, and has pre-
viously traveled to both Malaga, Gdansk
and London. Cheek thinks that this year’s
trip came in a special class.
– Iceland is not the most visited desti-
nation for us Norwegians, so many of
our employees experienced this amazing
country for the first time, she explains.
The team arrived Iceland on a Friday
morning, and could therefore enjoy the
first day with various activities. The par-
ticipants could choose between driving
ATVs, riding horses or sightseeing tour by
bus in Reykjavik. datory visit to the ”Blue Lagoon” before
returning home.
Saturday there was also a guided bus
tour around Iceland, touring the so-called
Golden Circle. This was a trip where the
group really got to see what this island
nation has to offer of great nature ex-
periences. Cheek is full of praise when
describing the trip, and draws the expe-
rience from the mighty Gullfoss and gey-
sers as examples of absolute highlights.
Sunday ended with the more or less man- Kari Haaland Cheek appreciates the good
feedback from this year’s participants, and
really looks forward to the next oppor-
tunity to gather the employees for a sim-
ilar event.
– We always aim to find positive activities
that create good stories for our employ-
ees, she explains, but will not yet reveal
neither the date nor the destination for
the next event.
