When Geir Elsebutangen, CEO of Kragerø Energy Holding, started work on streamlining internal
processes and cutting IT costs, he had not heard of SYSCO at all. However, after a thorough
evaluation of available IT suppliers, SYSCO was the best company.
– SYSCO’s expertise is in a class of its
own, providing the best IT services for
the utility industry - and on top of this we
also save money, says the CEO.
Both IT solutions and IT operations are
major cost items for Kragerø Energy,
and Geir Elsebutangen therefore took
an active role in reviewing the various
services the company needed and rele-
vant IT suppliers in the industry. The goal
was mainly to increase the uptime and
stability of the various systems, but also
partly to reduce costs.
The company therefore spent a lot of
time looking at what solutions were used
in the utility industry, both in larger and
smaller power companies.
At the same time, they thoroughly ex-
amined the various players who provided
IT services to the industry, and what
knowledge and expertise these players
could provide.
– It was important for us to get into
partnership with a supplier who knew

the industry and who had expertise in
the fields we are working in, explains
Elsebutangen.
Like other utility companies, Kragerø
Energi has a number of IT systems. They
rely on the fact that all these systems
work together, and therefore they were
also looking to find a competent partner
who could work with them in this pro-
cess.
When the company launched its call
for interest, they received a number of
inquiries, which resulted in a laborious
selection process with high accuracy
requirements. Elsebutangen says that
they had set four criteria for the selec-
tion: price, expertise, solidity and industry
experience.
In the end, the company was left with
ten IT companies capable of delivering
the solutions they had requested. All re-
maining IT companies were major and
reputable actors.
Although the CEO admits that he had
not heard of SYSCO in advance, he even-
tually gained insight into the company’s
expertise and working methods.
SYSCO quickly distinguished itself in
terms of insight into the services Kragerø
needed, its solid experience and refer-
ence projects from the industry.
SYSCO also had the necessary qualities
to collaborate on projects other than
those mentioned in the tender process.
What was important for us was to re-
duce our IT costs, explains Elsebutangen,
and with the solution SYSCO delivers,
the company clearly has this with a good
margin.
– In addition to the specific savings we
have achieved, we also see that the per-
son responsible for our IT, has freed his
time to do the tasks he really should do.
The fact that the cost has also been re-
duced proves that our choice has been
an important and correct investment,
