Elhub - An international
utility project
Frode Kaspersen is one of many SYSCO employees who have so far been involved in
the Norwegian Elhub project, commuting between the offices of Statnett in Oslo and his
home in Haugesund on a weekly basis.
The project also carried out only in
Norway that is working with Elhub, and
this fall, therefore, he visited Mumbai
in India to meet some of the foreign
resources assisting at various levels of
the Norwegian utility project.
Large resources and special skills are
needed to develop a system that can han-
dle accurate estimates of the consump-
tion in the Norwegian grid. A project of
this size requires a lot of capacity and
high level of competence. India is known
for its highly qualified IT environments,
and this is also the reason why Accen-
ture has some of its Indian resources
associated with the Elhub project.
Frode Kaspersen has been working in
the Elhub project since May 2016, and
is responsible for calculating tests, in-
cluding the basis for balance settlement
and non-conformance settlement.
– In short, it means that I test and control
the system, making sure it works under
all conceivable scenarios, and that the
data provided to the associated market
players is correct, he explains.
As part of this work, Kaspersen has been

cooperating with the Indian resources,
communicating by phone and mail, and
holding meetings on Skype. Even though
this way of co-operation works well,
Kaspersen still feels it is both helpful and
pleasant to finally meet people behind
the different names he has worked with
so far. Together with SYSCO colleagues
Leif Morland and Eirik Lilleaas, he spent
two weeks at Accenture in India to
review the details of the project.
– Usually, I’m requesting on issues that
need to be adjusted, but other times
there are questions from the various
teams on how things should be set up,
Kaspersen says.
At other times, there are also questions
about things that are perceived as very
obvious to a Norwegian, but appearing
very strange to a person with a different
background.
– How do you explain, for example, the
purpose of adjusting the time of your
clock twice a year, to someone who is not
used to summer and winter time, asks
Kaspersen smilingly.
He believes the meetings in India have
helped to create even better foundation
for understanding and collaboration over
time, and is pleased to have become
acquainted with his Indian project col-
leagues.
– Elhub is a groundbreaking project,
which is very educational and where you
find a lot of people with high qualifica-
tions, says Frode Kaspersen. He enjoys
his work, and also uses the opportunity
to praise a very good working environ-
ment. In the beginning of next year, he
will once again head for India to continue
his work on one of the largest IT projects
in Norway.
International cooperation:
