DevOps represent efficiency and creation of value
Today’ s IT solutions can manage ever-increasing data volumes and adaptations while providing stability and security. This means that most organizations must spend a lot of resources on ensuring continuous maintenance and upgrading of their IT systems.
In this context, it is becoming increasingly common to use a so-called DevOps method( a shortening of the words“ Development and Operations”, ed. To ensure faster and more automated development processes.
DevOps aim to make the processes of development more effective, and not so clearly distinguish between those who develop and those who manage the systems. – We move away from situations that create prosecutions and cooperate constructively, explains Jon Petter Hjulstad. He is the head of the SYSCO Integration & Intermediary Department, and is responsible for a number of deve- lopment and integration projects for the company’ s customers.
Hjulstad says that DevOps create less distances between the various departments and expertise, for a more efficient process to develop new products and quickly deploy them. – It’ s a lot about culture, says Hjulstad. He thinks that the best solution for this initiative is to start step by step and look for areas where there is the most improvement potential or it’ s most critical. Eventually this can be expanded into new solutions.
Sysco has extensive experience in both development and integration, and works extensively with Oracle Fusion Middleware and Open Source. Sysco is also a partner with Confluent and is increasingly working with Kafka, where the company has also contributed code to the Open Source solution. This applies to all types of development, and it works with various types of integration and application development that automates the construction of new solutions. The goal is to make projects faster, but at the same time maintaining operational safety, Hjulstad explains. – We see that this is a very efficient workform, and therefore also experience a growing interest in this kind of solutions, concludes Jon Petter Hjulstad.
