FROM ADMISSIONS

SU is home . A simple phrase that was written on a T-shirt I received during an event my freshman year at Stevenson . At the time , I did not realize the gravity of this statement ; I did not realize how this simple phrase would become a reality over the next several years .

Prospective students often share that they feel nervous about the college search process , a feeling that is very familiar when reflecting on your own experience . There are so many universities to choose from . How will I ever decide ? How will I know which is the right place for me ? When I first visited campus searching for a place to earn a degree and spend the next four years , those feelings started to melt away . I was in awe of how welcoming everyone was — the strong sense of community pulled you in and I knew I wanted to be a part of it . I no longer felt overwhelmed by the choice I had to make . Instead , I followed a feeling that hasn ’ t left since I first arrived at Stevenson years ago .
As someone who doesn ’ t make decisions easily , choosing Stevenson was easy because of the people . The more time I spent on campus , the more I got to see how far that sense of community spread . It was important for me to be to engaged in my education . I knew I could not sit in a large class and be a number in a lecture hall . Here , professors care for their students and know how to engage them . It was clear the professors at Stevenson love what they do , and that passion was contagious .
The experiences on campus I was most fond of was being involved in clubs and organizations . I loved every minute of it . The clubs on campus allow you to follow a multitude of interests . Stevenson offers a variety of opportunities to get involved and grow in so many ways . Through my experience at Stevenson , I had the opportunity to serve as the Student Government Association President , which connected me with many peers and professionals on campus . I was fortunate to see the growth on campus through a new lens and become part of the development . My position in the SGA allowed for me to be the first student to welcome our University President , Dr . Hirshman . I had the opportunity to approve new clubs on campus that allow for students to pursue their passions , which contributes back to the community on campus . Some traditions on campus started during my time with the SGA , such as the Food Truck Rally , and other traditions continued . One of my favorite traditions is Haunted Hallways when all the clubs and organizations come together to plan an engaging event during Homecoming week . All these involvements helped me to develop lifelong friendships that I cherish .
With all the new and exciting changes occurring across campus upon Stevenson ' s 75th anniversary , I am so thankful to be a part of it . While I was an undergraduate student , I was able to see the campus add the Manning Academic Center , now a thriving academic hub on campus . Coming back as a staff member , I have watched the East campus extension expand to enhance athletics and recreational facilities . Stevenson provides those that are part of the Mustang Family the opportunity to become their best . They can continue to grow as their individual self and follow their passions . The most important part of becoming an Admissions Counselor is guiding prospective students to find their perfect fit . Stepping into this role , my goal is to help future Mustangs see how Stevenson can become their home and relish that same feeling of community .
