“ People are always told there is nothing you can do with an English major , when is reality there is nothing you can ’ t do ,” English Language & Literature graduate Kayleigh Marinelli muses . “ Stevenson is unique because it allows for everyone to explore their majors .”
A writer that defines her stories as ones that “ blur the lines of reality ,” Kayleigh has been writing about everything from ghosts to dinosaurs from a young age . “ Now , [ I ] write stories about ghosts , dinosaurs , and the human experience ,” she reflects .
During her undergraduate experience at Stevenson , Kayleigh was Editor-in- Chief of The Greenspring Review , the university ’ s digital art and literary magazine . This role helped her collaborate with like-minded aspiring artists on their work , and ultimately led her to the decision to pursue graduate school for creative writing and publishing .
Kayleigh chose to attend Stevenson for a plethora of reasons : “ the small class sizes , the beautiful campuses , the love and care of the English professors , and the culture of Baltimore .” Her favorite part of the English Language & Literature program was being able to fully delve into a variety of subjects that piqued her interest — “ I was able to take classes on Gothics , Young Adult Novels , and Misfits , which I adored and am forever grateful for .”
Additionally , due to the close-knit nature of classes and relationships that are built into the Stevenson community , she knew she could always go to her professors or peers at any time . “ I would not be the human , the writer , the professional I am today without my peers and professors from Stevenson .”
In 2019 , Kayleigh received her MFA in Creative Writing , and since has been undertaking a Master ’ s in Special Education while working full-time with students with disabilities in the Bronx in New York . Her debut novel , The Fantastic Fabricated Life of Lyle Farker , was published by Atmosphere Press in 2021 .
