Tim Mozingo ‘21 considers himself a student at heart. Whether in the traditional classroom, as an athlete, or in his internship, he is always ready to learn something new.
Tim's involvement in different areas of the campus community proves just that. He’s been a member of Stevenson’s men’s soccer team for all four years. His team had the opportunity to travel to Spain in 2019 to play international teams and explore the cities like Barcelona and Madrid. Tim is also a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and the School of Business and Leadership’s Accounting Association, both of which have given him tools to help secure a job and propel him into leadership roles—from interview preparation and resume crafting, to connecting with prospective employers at the annual Accounting Fair. Additionally, Tim is a student tutor in the Academic Link, assisting fellow students with subjects such as statistics and economics. “It is very rewarding. I understand what it is like to be struggling in a class, so seeing the student better themselves and their grades is great to see as their tutor.”
For a year now, Tim has been an intern at the Weil, Akman, Baylin & Coleman, P.A. firm, helping prepare tax returns and basic accounting work. “It’s a stepping stone in my professional career.” Working alongside others that are recently out of school, including Stevenson graduates, has given him a network of support, and Tim has already secured a job offer post-graduation. “Something my mom always says is, “Its all about who you know,” and that is very apparent when you have Stevenson graduates that are looking out for one another.”
Tim also credits Stevenson's accounting program for setting him up for success. “From the interview and resume prep, to getting you in front of employers, SU sets you up to have a job in the accounting and finance field post-graduation. The program teaches you all of the elements that accountants need to know, as well as preparing you for the CPA exam,” which certifies graduates as public accountants. “Given the opportunities that Stevenson has presented me, I have been able to progress my career more than I could have imagined.”
In addition to his finance track within the accounting major, Tim took on a minor in economics in order to broaden his degree as much as possible. Having a wide knowledge base in the fields of accounting, finance, and economics has only benefitted him—equipping him with transferrable skills for any career path in business, as well as a vast network of professionals in the field. Tim is a part of the B.S. to M.S. Program at Stevenson, so he is already able to work toward a master’s degree in forensic accounting while earning his bachelor’s in accounting.
Given the opportunities that Stevenson has presented me, I have been able to progress my career more than I could have imagined.
