A few months ago, Steph invited us to The Sensory Score – a fully choreographed concert where sensory experiences are enhanced and deepened, and our experience of listening to the music was… well, like listening to heavy metal on a rollercoaster eating cherry blossom and pineapple. It was wild. It was soft. It was a one-to-one experience with a dancer, who blindfolded us, giving us bespoke tastes and original scents and textures at choreographed moments during the music. We came out of the experience with acidblue tongues and beetroot skin. We had bear hugs and felt ourselves tumbling through the air while a trio of musicians played classical music, while we were touched and brushed and pushed and pulled. Here, we chat with Steph to find out her ideas behind The Sensory Score, her obsession with creating classical concerts utilising synaesthesia, and why all the beetroot.
