author notes:
Leea Glasheen writes on the shores
of Lake Michigan; you are as likely to
catch sight of her at the lake as you are
to spy her in the corner of a coffee shop
tapping her thoughts into existence.
Leea packs a Master’s degree in Creative
Writing from Mount Mary University
of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
My motivation for writing “the dörr” was the
experience described within the poem. I was
on an inn balcony in the Scandinavian-est part
of Door County, Wisconsin in the early hours
of the morning listening to the waves lap the
shore when the mentioned gull flew through
the mentioned lead-frosted moon and called
out. My heart was so full with the loveliness
of our gorgeous and mysterious world and the
gorgeous and mysterious beings that inhabit it,
that I had no recourse but to let some out onto
a page so I wouldn’t topple over.
