Editors' Note
It started with a word. Synaesthesia. A red howl in the dark. Then an idea; a criss-crossing between two genres of art.
Soon it became an aim; a magazine inviting writers, non-writers, artists and readers alike to share and embrace words for all their beauty, timbre and colour.
So it began. Broke, yet craving creativity, recent graduates Annabelle and Carlotta were propelled into their multi-sensory project.
WARNING: Contain strong images suggestive of violence and blood. But, you know, "art is what you can get away with." So, we've tried.
Our ‘red’ issue is vibrant, visually evocative and visceral – the pieces vary from heartbreak in ‘Big City Lights’ to Tom Robinson’s advice on how to make it in the journalistic world. Kisses trail the magazine in Harry Harris' poem whilst Joe's illustrations lend a quirkiness to a small bird's broken wing.
We’re so thrilled with the response Synaesthesia has had since our first Winter issue. Not only have we been delighted with a wide readership and wonderful submissions, but we’ve got a new Design Editor on board – Jake Tucker. All that glistens in this issue is probably down to him.
The magazine welcomes themed submissions, details of which are announced at the back of each publication, be it creative prose, poetry, illustrations, reviews or writers' tips!
