Photo series: Alex Charilaou What I try to achieve through photographing boudoir is a sense of cinematic and iconic imagery that evokes feelings of longing, wistfulness, subtlety and grace. I seek to shoot women who are brave, intelligent, magnetic and creative. Women who are best described as talented, progressive, fearless and defiant. I believe these photographs empower and celebrate women. I want to produce the antithesis of traditional glamour shots, capturing the character, charisma and raw beauty of all women; juxtaposing a hidden secret, a vulnerability that echoes a deep and sensual display of primal exhibitionism. I emphasise detail, texture and the relationship between light and shadow to create a response of wonder, a feeling that the viewer can ‘touch’ the photograph. My images provoke a replication of what it feels and looks like to be attracted to a woman.
