Would it seem exotic in this mountainous place

of waist-high snow, biploar climate, bipolar barometer,

place of wildfire, waiting for fire, aftermath of fire –

would it seem exotic, the week-long rains of Georgia,

the needled mosquito, humidity a mouth-watery tomb?

Or say, the gingerbread houses of Chattanooga, Tennessee

with their gently pregnant yards checked by stone,

the dancing hydrangea, peach and dogwood,

the March 1st jonquils – would it seem exotic

or must there prance some grander necessary tragedy?
