per eligible Member – NO PROXY VOTING IS ALLOWED.
2.
No conversations (except for the Tellers managing the process and
the Presiding Officer operating in her official capacity) are allowed
during voting. Members may leave the room once they submit
their ballots for tallying and engage in conversation in the hallway
until the meeting is reconvened. Members will not be allowed to
take the ballots outside the room during active voting.
3.
The first and last name of the candidates, including any candidates
nominated from the floor, shall be printed on the ballot. Additional
lines will be provided for write-in candidates. The voter shall
circle/add name of her choice within each category/position
provided. If a voter does not circle/write-in a name in a particular
category/position, the vote will be treated as “not cast” for that
particular category/position.
4.
Once the Member completes the voting process, the ballot should
be returned to the designated Teller.
5.
Run-Offs: if more than two candidates are running for a given
office and no candidate secures a majority of votes from
Members in Good Standing, a run-off will be required. As a
result, the top two candidates will be allowed to make 1 minute
statements to the Chapter and the Tellers will distribute a
modified voting ballot.
6.
“No Winner” Elections: If two or fewer candidates run for an
office and no one person secures the required majority of votes
from Members in Good Standing - nominations from the floor will
be taken so that another election can take place. The “floor”
nominee(s) must accept the nomination to be considered by the
Chapter. Good Standing for each candidate will be confirmed and
the Tellers will distribute blank ballots. Members will vote by
filling in the name of the “floor nominee” of their choice or their
desired “write-in” candidate. This process will continue until a
“winner” is secured. If a quorum is lost, or the required Members in
Good Standing are not available, the balance of the positions will be
filled pursuant to the Bylaws rules regarding Vacancies - Article
IV, Section 5 – Vacancies.
Tallying of the Votes
1.
The Chapter voting standard for elections is as follows: a
candidate will be proclaimed the “winner” if she is “elected by
a majority vote of the Chapter Membership in Good
Standing” (Article IV, Section I(G)(1)). As a result, if a
candidate does not receive a clear majority of votes from the
Members in Good Standing (whether the Members in Good
Standing are present or not), a run-off will be required. (i.e.
the denominator by which ½ will be calculated will be the
Members in the Chapter that are in Good Standing, not
necessarily the Members that are present to vote)
