Dav Pilkey comes to town!
Miani, Harry D and Shehan were really pleased
to be able to interview Dav Pilky when he visited
Australia for the Sydney Writes Festival in May
this year, and as an extra treat the team were all
invited to meet Dav when he came to Melbourne
after the SWF was over.
Dav’s shared his story of how he managed to
turn his challenging early school years, where
he spent many hours in the corridor after being
sent out of class, into an extraordinarily successful career as a children’s writer and illustrator.
Whilst Dav was very popular with his fellow class
mates, some of his teachers failed to see his innate talent for satire and whit... his second grade
teacher even severely warned him that he would
amount to nothing if he just kept drawing comic
characters all the time! Well, she couldn’t have
been more wrong... Dav is a shining example that
persevering at the things you really love pay off
eventually!
