Love Our MacRitchie Forest Singapore’s only native reserve is home to rare and unique wildlife by Teresa Teo Guttensohn The Movement The Love Our MacRitchie Forest movement was launched in response to the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) announcement in early 2013 of the new Cross Island MRT line (CRL), which is proposed to run underneath MacRitchie Forest in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR), Singapore. The campaign urges the LTA reconsider the proposed alignment of the Cross Island MRT Line (CRL). In response to the movement, a series of discussions hosted by Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Ministry of Transport (MOT) Singapore with the CRL Working Group, comprising stakeholders and citizens concerned about losing our precious and irreplaceable natural heritage, have been heartening as we believe the LTA appreciates the sanctity of MacRitchie Forest, and are willing to make every effort not to violate it by considering alternative routes skirting MacRitchie Forest. However, a definite decision on the final CRL alignment has yet to be confirmed. The movement calls for all Singaporeans to love and cherish their natural heritage before it is too late. Lost ancient eco-systems cannot be replaced. We must leave a little legacy of awe and wonder for the children of Singapore! The Music Video The Song This music video is part of a campaign to raise awareness for a precious primeval forest in the heart of urban Singapore. MacRitchie Forest, within the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, holds the largest stand of primary forest in Singapore, and is refuge for many native plants, invertebrate and vertebrate species. Some rare species are not found anywhere else in Singapore. As such, these species may be lost from Singapore if the forest is disturbed.
