Researching Steelhead Fly Tying is a relatively easy thing to do, as there are a great number of resources out there. I started with Trey Combs book, “Steelhead Fly Fishing.”, and was treated to quite a surprise. I had picked up a used copy off the internet, and discovered a personal message, hand written on the inside of the cover. The book had been a gift, not only from one angler to another, but apparently from a mentor to a student.
Amongst the message, was the following quote, ”….Seriously, I offer it (this book) in hopes you’ll increase your opportunities to take fish under more conditions, and to even reap some fraction of the pleasure and tranquil regeneration the sport has given me the last several years…...”.
It was almost as if the book was meant to be mine, and the mentor’s message meant for me. In addition to that, I found a quote by Trey Combs contained within,
“The design for a steelhead dressing is limited only by the imagination.”
