COUNCIL OF VISITORS 2018
By Anna Moir
Grants & Communications Manager
O
n October 11, 2018, Mount Auburn
hosted its seventh annual Council
of Visitors meeting. Participants braved the
rain to attend behind-the-scenes tours led
by Artist-in-Residence Patrick Gabridge,
Dave Barnett and Dennis Collins in Asa Gray
Garden, and Educator-in-Residence David
Morimoto of Lesley University. Following
the tours, Bigelow Chapel was the main
topic of the day, with a keynote presentation
by William L. Rawn III, award-winning
architect and founding principal of William
Rawn Associates, discussing the firm’s
work on the project design. He then joined
colleague Sam Lasky, Bree Harvey and Gus
Fraser of Mount Auburn, and architect and
Cemetery Trustee Jim Hunnewell for a panel
discussion moderated by fellow architect and
Trustee Sean McDonnell. As the Bigelow
revitalization project neared completion, it
was a valuable opportunity to learn from the
people who saw the project through from
start to finish.
The Council of Visitors is composed of
Cemetery friends who serve as informal
advisors and ambassadors for Mount Auburn
and assist us in accomplishing our mission
in a variety of ways. Members include local
community members and leaders in horti-
culture, historic preservation, education,
and landscape design.
