B otanical art bridges my interests in plant science and in art . The plant world is full of changing form , pattern , texture , and color , from which I derive endless inspiration . I am fascinated not only by the beauty of flourishing plants but also by what remains after they go to seed or die — spent seedpods , withered leaves and flowers . I often paint multiple components of an individual plant , or collections of found objects that together comprise a whole composition . I take inspiration from the early plant explorers and botanical artists whose illustrative plates were great works of art that also provided accurate detail for scientific study . Building on this tradition , my goal is to depict the plant world in all its variety , creating lasting images that are both illustrative and visually compelling .

I am working on my final project for the botanical art and illustration program at the Wellesley College Botanic Gardens ,
