W e are pleased to introduce Mount Auburn Cemetery ’ s new Statement of Mission , Vision , and Values , approved by the Board of Trustees on June 11 , 2020 . The Statement is the result of a year-long process guided by a Trustee Task Force on Vision and Values , working with consultants MaryJane Kubler and Karl Wirka of KublerWirka , Inc . In fall 2019 , the Task Force convened a series of conversations with a wide range of constituencies regarding Mount Auburn today and in the future . They talked with staff and volunteers , educators , community and civic leaders , landscape and horticulture leaders , users of cemetery services , public visitors , members of the Council of Visitors , and the Trustees themselves . The conversations illuminated the values that might inform the evolution of Mount Auburn and help express its vision for the future . With additional guidance from the Trustees , the Task Force distilled and shaped the results into the following statement of Mount Auburn ’ s existing mission and newly articulated vision and defining values :

Mission :
Mount Auburn inspires all who visit , comforts the bereaved , and commemorates the dead in a landscape of exceptional beauty .
Vision :
We envision a world that celebrates life ’ s seasons , preserves natural beauty , and remembers human stories .
Values :
Openness – Welcome Compassion – Dignity Beauty – Serenity Stewardship – Sustainability Integrity – Balance
