Mount Auburn is my special place . I visit often to watch the seasons change and to witness the astonishing beauty that each season brings . I never tire of its winding paths and its unceasing grace . — Anonymous ; Newton , MA
One September day , years ago , I sat down near the Washington Tower , to take in the autumn colors and the view of Boston . Over my head fluttered one , two , three , a dozen — and then hundreds — of monarch butterflies , on their way south to Mexico for the winter . My spirits soared with them ! — Anne ; MA
I spend time in Mount Auburn Cemetery every week and love the changing seasons . Winter is a particular favorite ; the grounds are often empty , and you can see the structures of all the beautiful trees . It ’ s perhaps the last place our family strolled with my father just prior to his death , and the memory of that day carries a special resonance . — Barbara ; Watertown , MA
One day I took a walk in the morning at Mount Auburn Cemetery as the season ’ s first snow was just starting to sprinkle across the landscape . Then I took another walk the same day after the storm and before sunset when the snow draped heavily in the trees and enveloped the cemetery . Both magical winter walks , on the same day ! — Wendy ; Cambridge , MA
I have enjoyed peaceful walks in Mount Auburn Cemetery since moving to the Boston area over a decade ago . Each time I go I notice new things even though I have walked through dozens of times . The views from the lookout tower are incredible and never get old . I love seeing the cemetery in each of the four seasons when I go . The SOLSTICE event is even more special — I went with my partner and our friend last winter and we were blown away by it . — Anonymous ; Cambridge , MA
My dear late husband , Steve , is buried on Willow Pond as will I be one day in the adjacent plot . Visiting every month these past eight years have helped to bring peace . I have been surprised and pleased by the lively year-round activities of the Friends of Mount Auburn . — Anonymous ; Cambridge , MA
After my husband died and was buried at Mount Auburn , I took enormous comfort from the candlelight remembrance service in December . The poetry , music , and readings were very moving and so was the company of fellow mourners . — Anne ; Watertown , MA
My girlfriend and I actually arranged our first meeting at Mount Auburn Cemetery ! We still love walking there together , and recently did so on the third anniversary of that first encounter . We have SOLSTICE tickets for our actual third anniversary . — Anonymous ; Allston , MA
