Remembering Three Former Board Members

he Mount Auburn Cemetery

T community lost three cherished former Board members over the last six months . Honorary Trustee William A . Truslow ( pictured top left ) passed away on December 4 , 2021 , in Cambridge . Bill Truslow , an attorney , was most recently of counsel at Ropes & Gray with a practice in trusts , estate planning , and corporate law . He was a member of the Mount Auburn Board of Trustees from 2003 – 15 and served on the Investment and Building & Grounds Committees while contributing on many strategic planning initiatives . At his last Trustee meeting , Bill was recognized for his “ legal expertise , insightful thinking and ability to ask the hard questions .” A graduate of Yale and Harvard Law School , he is survived by his wife , Mimi , and their three children .

Honorary Trustee Marion Fremont-Smith ( pictured middleleft ) passed away at her home in Cambridge on December 30 , 2021 . Mrs . Fremont-Smith joined the Mount Auburn Board in May 1989 and served for twelve years .
Marion was a partner with the law firm of Choate , Hall & Stewart , and author of seminal books and articles on non-profit governance . She helped structure the Friends of Mount Auburn Cemetery as a non-profit organization in 1990 .
She was a Senior Research Fellow with the Hauser Center for Non- Profit Organizations at the Harvard Kennedy School from 1998 until her death . A graduate of Wellesley College and Boston University School of Law , she is survived by her two children , four stepchildren , and their families .
Honorary Trustee James M . Storey ( pictured bottom-left ) died in Scarborough , Maine , on April 16 , 2022 . Jim was a Trustee of Mount Auburn for thirty-two years and served as the Board ’ s Secretary before being elected its first Chair in September 2005 .
A distinguished attorney , Jim served on the U . S . Securities & Exchange Commission and was a partner at Dechert Price & Rhoads . Born in Boston and educated at Harvard College and Harvard Law School , Jim was the son of Charles M . Storey , who preceded him on the Cemetery Board and served as a Trustee for forty-seven years .
Jim served many nonprofits , including the Massachusetts Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children , the Friends of the Public Garden , and the Massachusetts Historical Society . He is survived by his wife , Isabelle , daughters Eliza Anderson ( a current Mount Auburn Cemetery Trustee ), Barbara McGrath , and Susan Storey Frank , and their families .
