FROM THE Director of Golf ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Andy Scrivner, PGA Dear Shadow Wood Country Club Members, This article reaches you as I reach my third month at the club. As you know, Shadow Wood Country Club is impressive in many ways. The recently renovated clubhouse is extraordinary. The updates to the practice areas are fantastic. The loyalty and commitment, shown by the membership, by utilizing the golf amenities is extremely exciting. As I mentioned in an email during my welcome to the club, I look forward to continuing this positive momentum while establishing warm relationships with the membership. Your golf Professional Staff has developed an exciting, diverse Golf Events Calendar for this season. Shadow Wood Country Club members have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of events that populate the competitive spectrum from highly competitive to highly social. Our goal with every event is to analyze all aspects of the day along with the experience for those participating, and come up with creative and professional enhancements for our member’s enjoyment. Please refer to the Member Handbook, Golf Page on the club website, and Calendar on the club website for further information and details about this season’s Golf Events. Numerous members have informed me that our Director of Merchandise, Jeanette Fulton, is a merchandising superstar! With golf activity increasing, along with new faces and new ideas in the golf shop, we look forward to challenging her expertise! We are all extremely excited for our members’ return to the club and the upcoming season. The golf shop will be stocked with a variety of the finest products available on the market. Shadow Wood CC members will have many choices to utilize their member discount! Additionally, Shadow Wood CC will host numerous demo-day events in order to expose members to the newest and finest clubs on the market. The Professional Staff is eager to schedule personal fitting sessions during these demo events with members. As always, the SWCC golf shop is your golf shop and the staff is here for you. So, please let us know how we can assist with your shopping experience. I look forward to working with the membership on your golf games. One of the primary reasons I pursued a career in golf, was the ability to utilize my skills through instruction. I enjoy teaching individual sessions along with group sessions. Understanding your tendencies, developing a plan for practice & improvement, and focusing on this plan allows golfers to systemically improve and have more fun. Part of my teaching philosophy is recognizing and utilizing those elements of a student’s game which are positive and can be built upon. There is no “Perfect” way to succeed or improve as a golfer, however every student has positive attributes that need to be utilized. One of my goals is to further develop instructional programs for Shadow Wood CC members. The game is dynamic and we strive to be equally dynamic in our instructional offerings. In closing, on behalf of the entire golf staff, welcome back! We appreciate all of your support and look forward to providing you unsurpassed service this season. Our focus is on making this the best golf season yet at Shadow Wood Country Club! Respectfully yours, Andy Scrivner, Director of Golf From The SHADOW WOOD Golf Academy –––––––––––––––––––––– Dan Hansen, PGA Director of INSTRUCTION “Improving Your Game with Guided Instruction…Exploring Some Myths” One of the reasons many golfers avoid lessons is that they think the search for the simple, repeatable swing, means they will have to undo their whole golf swing instincts and go backwards. They are expecting an instructor to ridicule the swing they come armed with, and to make them go back to golf ’s equivalent of kindergarten.  That’s just not true. If you were to visit the driving range at a PGA or LPGA tour event, you will see all sorts of swings - some slow, liquid and elegant (like Ernie’s), but the majority will be much less elegant. Many could be referred to at times as “choppers”, some with little cuts and others with low draws, but what they will all be able to do is get the ball to where they want it to go, more often than not. When a player comes for a lesson, our first objective is to make sure that as quickly as possible we are increasing the enjoyment they get from the game, and that usually means making it easier for them to get the ball to where they want it to go, more often. For each of you, there will certainly be things in your fundamental setup, takeaway, downswing, impact and finish, we must evolve, rather than comple
