IMF joining up with Fischer Instrumentation to produce a webinar on where measuring equipment is used in conjunction with a finished coating
The 13th of April saw the hosting of a webinar entitled Plant and equipment presented by Will Green .
Although the subject of plant and equipment had been presented early last year it was updated by Will to include many pictures and as we all know “ pictures tell 1000 words ”.
The webinar went into great detail of the design of equipment , tanks , filtration , heating etc . and was well received by the students .

Our upcoming webinar will be held on Tuesday the 25th May at 14-00 and the subject will be ‘ The principles of electroplating ”.
This webinar follows the technician course and will be designed to be interactive .
The Southern Branch held another Zoom seminar on Wednesday
21st April .
The subject was ‘ Cleaning and preparation of metals prior to plating ’ and a repeat of the Electroless Nickel webinar .
Our first speaker was Ralph Dutton from Trimite Ltd who discussed the cleaning and preparation of metals prior to electroplating .
Ralph went into great detail of the different types of cleaners that can be used starting with soak cleaners moving onto electro cleaners and acid cleaning prior to the final plating process .
It was interesting to learn of the different chemicals used and how they are designed to interact with oils and greases found on metal components to thoroughly ensure that the metal is perfectly clean before electroplating .
The second speaker was John Burgess who discussed electroless nickel .
John explained how the process of electroless nickel works and the types of materials that can be plated . He also went on to explain the different types of electroless nickel such as Low , medium & High phosphorus electroless nickel , Nickel Boron and composite coatings such as PTFE and Silicon Carbide electroless nickels .

The 16th of June will see the IMF joining up with Fischer Instrumentation to produce a webinar on where measuring equipment is used in conjunction with a finished coating .

A new venture for the IMF will be into the world of the podcast .
The idea of this , is to talk to members and students of the IMF so that prospective members can get an understanding of how people got into the industry of electroplating , how and why they joined the IMF and also the courses that they may have taken .
We hope that people will find them of interest and of course if they feel that they might wish to contribute to a podcast then they can get the information from the website
As always , the IMF is looking for new members . New members are the life blood of helping to ensure that the IMF continues to prosper and support people who wish to learn more about the interesting world of Materials Finishing .
