New footbridge for village racegoers
A renowned firm of artistic metalworkers has called on the services of Manchester Galvanizing Ltd . to assist in the creation of a footbridge to enable easier access to a Cumbrian village .
Ulverston-based CB Arts were commissioned to design and fabricate a foot bridge to allow people to cross the River Eea , including on busy race days , without having to navigate a road bridge 50 metres upstream .
The nine-metre long forged steel structure weighs in at three tonnes and due to its complex design was galvanized as one piece .
Cathy Burrows , who oversees new projects at CB Arts , said the design was the brainchild of CB Arts Director and Founder Chris Brammall , highly regarded as one of the leading metalworkers in the UK .
She added : “ We worked with the Lake District National Park Authority and Lower Allithwaite Parish Council within the constraints and requirements of the Environment Agency to bring the project to completion .
“ It ’ s a beautiful piece , but there are some complex interlocking sections , and the handrail bars are hand-forged organic shapes , deliberately designed to reflect the willow trees nearby and the movement of the water .”
CB Arts has a long-standing relationship with Manchester Galvanizing Ltd . and has worked with the firm for several years .
