Fort Tilden: a deserted stretch of sand all your own, set amongst wilderness and accessible by only the intrepid.
Your adventure: Take a fishing pole to the visitors center to land a $50 parking permit, then discard the paraphernalia, you won’t be needing it. Once on foot use the military landmarks as markers. With no signs to point your
way to this remote hide-away, let the overgrowth of the decommissioned seventies military base guide you. Keep it’s
vine covered barracks to your right and tread through the dunes till you reach the wide open sands and fresh sea.
Breathe in the crashing waves as gulls swoop overhead. Watch the sun set, open a bottle, light a fire and tell stories
till the embers fail.
