As part of the crocodile management activities in Mayakoba , 3 nocturnal censuses and 8 daytime censuses were carried out in the lagoon system to monitor the populations of the 2 crocodile species that inhabit here . As well as knowing the feeding areas , the territories of the dominant males and the number of young and young .
During 2021 , the control program for the Quiscalus mexicanus ( grackle ) species was continued within the Mayakoba facilities , through the use of birds of prey with the intention of returning them to their natural feeding behaviors .
The monitoring of vertebrate fauna yielded 70 species and 401 records that correspond to 5 taxonomic Classes ( fish , amphibians , reptiles , birds and mammals ), 21 Orders and 40 Families . Birds represent the most abundant and diverse group in Mayakoba with 42 species and 244 records .
By Class studied , the records are represented by 60 % for birds , 18.57 % for reptiles , 14.28 % for mammals , 4.28 % for amphibians and 2.86 % for fish .
