Sustainable Interior Styling Guide and Design Directory 1 | Page 39

Welcome to the first edition of the Sustainable Interior Styling Design Directory. This sourcebook shows there are many green and eco options available on the market, now you know what materials to look for in your interior - and that it is easier than you may think to go green when styling a modern home. Each of the five sections are packed with fashionable and green, hard and soft finishings, to make it easier for you to make a more conscious choice for the environment, ethics and your health. These suppliers, retailers and manufacturers are brought to you from sighting the companies’ products and being satisfied with their eco or green claims, however some of them have so far been taken at face value. Also, a few of the suppliers listed here do not have a full range, with only selected products being sustainable and green. So, you should still ask the following questions to be satisfied that you are comfortable with the product choice you are making and it sits right for you; 1. What are the materials? Where are they from? 2. What has the process been in making this product? 3. What glues or finishes have been used? 4. Does this product have any certifications? If so, what are they? 5. How should this product be maintained to be kept in good condition? Am I happy to maintain it? 6. Can it be recycled or repurposed later? Or, will it cause a problem if it goes to landfill? 7. Do I LOVE it? With this being the first edition, look out for our regular updates - the pace of change in sustainable and green furniture, furnishings and fittings is changing rapidly. If you have come across an awesome product you think is worth of being in this directory, then let us know. So go forth, and create a beautiful home, and make sure that you tell suppliers you found them here. Rachel Main [email protected] 39
