Which just shows there is no doubt that the RookieTour plays an important role in developing potential future Surrey. Finally, a big thank you to all those who have helped with this year’s tour. There are far too many to name, but you know who you are, and we really appreciate your help. Not forgetting all the mums and dads who, week in week out, do a terrific job of taxi driving and ball spotting for their youngsters, along with supporting the Tour itself. The Paul Casey Trophy (U12) With a field of nearly 60 players the Surrey U12 County Championship, Paul Casey Trophy, took place on a pleasant Sunday afternoon in May at Chobham Golf Club. With players as young as 8 years old taking part, with handicaps ranging from 5 to 34, the future of Surrey junior golf was clearly on display and didn’t disappoint. The format for the U12 Championship is 18 holes scratch stroke play. In addition, there were handicap prizes and a putting competition. Last year’s youngest ever U13 & U14 Champion Kris Kim (Cuddington) took the Championship with a superb gross 71, followed by Oscar Lent (Walton Heath) with a 74 and in third by virtue of count back was Charles Beeson with a 76, who just pipped Evan Taylor and James Parsons (both Foxhills). Everyone then headed back to the clubhouse for the presentation where Chobham Club Captain Steve Cates and Terry Casey presented the prizes for the putting competition, handicapped event and the scratch Championship.
