U14 & U18 Rookie Leagues (Manager Caroline Hardy-Evans)
The U14 & U18 Rookie Leagues were once again a great success in 2018 and with a record The
U14 & U18 Rookie Leagues were once again a great success, with 16 clubs taking part in both
age groups. The teams were separated into four zones and as in previous years we had some very
competitive matches with some excellent golf being played.
Once all the zone rounds were completed the winners and the runners up moved onto the
quarter finals day. Pyrford Golf Club have for the last seven years kindly hosted the quarter finals,
the semi-finals and the final and we are very grateful for their continued support.
The Quarter Finalists were:
U14 Age Group:
Bramley, Roehampton, Walton Heath, Foxhills, Wentworth, Burhill, Farnham & Horne Park.
U18 Age Group:
Camberley Heath, Royal Mid Surrey, Cuddington, Farnham, Wimbledon Park, Burhill, Foxhills &
Horne Park.
As per the zone stages the knockout stages of the competition proved to be extremely competitive.
Moving into the semi-finals day for the U14’s:
Bramley, Foxhills, Wentworth and Horne Park
& for the U18’s Royal Mid Surrey, Cuddington, Foxhills and Burhill
The Semi Finals were:
U14 Age Group:
In the match between Bramley v Foxhills, Foxhills won both their matches, taking a slightly easier
route into the final than Horne Park who had to win a sudden death play-off on the second extra
hole against Wentworth to secure their place.
U18 Age Group:
Like the U14 age group, Cuddington went straight through against Royal Mid Surrey whilst
Foxhills went through following a win on the first play-off hole against Burhill.
Finals Day
Sadly, the weather took a turn for the finals day with the matches starting off in awful conditions.
However, that didn’t deter the players and we were treated to yet more wonderful displays of golf
with each match being played in great spirit.
In the U14’s match, Horne Park with its team of; Benjamin Benetar, Ben Kinsey, Oliver Watts and
Harrison Brindley secured the win over the Foxhills team of Sean Barnfather, Cody Fernades, Jo
Gould and James Brash to take the title of U14 Rookie League Champions.
The U18 final was decided on the third playoff hole on the very last putt and holding their
nerve to win for the second year in a row and taking the title once again of U18 Rookie League
Champions, were the Foxhills team of; Alex Jakins, Abbi Rowlands, Charlotte Benford and Fletcher
Rees who beat the Cuddington team of James Crossett, Dexter Daly, Jack Howes and Callum
Furmidge.
Congratulations not only go to winning teams but all players that took part representing their
clubs in all stages of the competition. Also, a big thank you to all the volunteers for their help and
support over the three consecutive Sundays and of course not forgetting the team managers,
junior organiser and parents and of course Pyrford Golf Club for their continued support.
