We were treated exceptionally well at every venue with protected tee times, great food and exceptional company. We had some really competitive games and welcomed back a further two fixtures that had not been played for a few years. We further expanded the squad of players this year, with 52 players in total representing the county A team in 2019. We played 14 matches but only won 7 of them. Four other matches were cancelled. We are extremely grateful for everyone who makes themselves available to play. The streamlined email and WhatsApp based team management process seemed to work well this year. Colts 18 To Under 26 From Alan Page Surrey take part in the EGU South East Group Colts League and this is the third year it has been run. The League is aimed at players aged between 18 and 25 so players under age 18 are not eligible - it is designed to give this age group the experience of competitive County Golf. In 2019 SE Group placed Counties into two groups and we were in the South Group with Hampshire and Kent. The North Group was Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Middlesex. Our first match was away to Hampshire at Sherfield Oaks on the 16th June and we had a good start winning the foursomes 2½ to 1½. However, our stronger format of singles did not go well, and we lost the first six matches but won the last two - overall losing 7½ to 4½. Our home match against Kent was at Cuddington on the 30th June and again we started strongly and won the foursomes 4 - 0. Kent came back in the afternoon beating us 4½ to 3½ but we still won 7½ to 4½. Our Group matches finished with Hampshire getting 12½ points in total followed by us in second place on 12 points and Kent third on 11½ points so a very close result. Essex won the other group and went on to beat Hampshire in the main Final to become the Colt League winners. During our two matches we used 12 players, Charlie Crockett, Liam Cox, David Gurr, Chris Thomas, Cavan Mallon, Ben Stokoe, Kevin Lee, Tommy Bentley, Scott Murray. Sam Wood, Lawrence Courtney and Killian McGinley. Friendship Trophy - Alan Page (Manager) We take part in this event each year and this is the 8th year the event has been played and was hosted by the Spanish region of Catalunya at the PGA Catalunya in Girona. The European Tour provided the trophy for the event as it is designed to promote friendship across different countries in Europe. The event is a 36-hole Strokeplay competition hosted over two days with teams of 6 players (4 boys and 2 girls). We play against the regions of Catalunya and Occitanie (in South West France). The standard of golf is very high and our combined handicap for all 6 players was 1 - Ben was our lowest handicap off +2. Our team was Olivia Horsford, Ella Hammond-Baveystock, Harry Crockett, John Richardson, Luke Stock and Ben Partridge. The event was won by the French region of Occitanie with the Spanish region of Catalunya second and us third. All the players were very good, but the notable player was David Puig from Catalunya and he is one of the best juniors in the World by ranking with a handicap of +4 - he played in the Junior Ryder Cup in 2018 and the Jacques Leglise Trophy in 2019. Over the two days of competition he was 6 under par. The average score for the winning team from Occitaine was 72.75 against a par of 72. We will host the competition in 2020.
