MEMBERSHIP Affiliated Clubs 96 + 7 Associated Clubs + 17 Artisan Clubs The County lost two Clubs who for different reasons have closed their doors during 2019, Redhill & Reigate and Twisted Stone. Another Club, Moore Place, also closed but the members have attached themselves to Sandown Park, so remain as an associated Club and continue to call themselves Moore Place. CENTENARIES No Surrey Club will celebrate their Centenary until the year 2022. Surrey County Golf will celebrate its Centenary in 2023. SUBSCRIPTIONS The subscriptions for 2020 have been notified to Clubs, these have changed due to an increase in England Golf fees from £9.00 to £9.50. Surrey Golf have also increased the County fees due to inflationary increases in running costs and the County putting on more Events, Championships, County Card days, Knockouts, coaching, matches for teams of all age groups from U12’s to Seniors, this is the first increase by the County since 2013. The combined Surrey and England fee will be £19.50 per male playing member made up as follows: £10.00 to Surrey Golf and £9.50 to England Golf. Juniors will pay £8.00 to Surrey Golf and £9.50 to England. Members belonging to two or more Surrey Clubs will only pay one County affiliation fee, at their home Club. If a member belongs to another Club outside the County, and that is their home Club, they would pay the England fee there but would still only have to pay the Surrey Fee at the Surrey Club. COUNTY CARD SCHEME A few years ago, it was agreed that, in order to stimulate green fee income for Clubs, and to give added value to membership of a Surrey Club, a free county card would be given to all Surrey Club non-junior golfing members. This has proved most popular and will continue in 2020. The county card meetings were again well supported, giving Surrey members an opportunity to play some of the best courses in the county under competition conditions and at a very good rate. This is to all intent and purposes a County Society. For 2020 the venues are - in order of play - Burhill, West Hill, Hindhead, West Byfleet, Camberley Heath (New venue), Hankley Common (singles), Hankley Common (FBBB), Effingham and Walton Heath. ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING As per 2019 the 2020 AGM will be held at Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club on Wednesday 1st April, and will be followed by the County lunch. The County Amateur Championship hosted at Purely Downs stood out for two reasons. Firstly in the qualifying rounds Angus Flanagan shot a new course record 62 and secondly, showing the quality of the event, the final was between two +4 players, with David Corben winning the crown for the third time by beating Angus in what was an exciting final. In the Mid-Age we had another course record, this time at Croham Hurst by Michael Piesse who - 18 -
