Most, if not all, the Surrey U14, U13 and U12 team players either come from, or already play
in, the RookieTour. Which just shows there is no doubt that the Surrey Golf RookieTour plays an
important role in developing potential future Surrey stars.
As always a big thank you to all those who have helped with this year’s tour. There are far too
many to name, but you know who you are and we really appreciate your help.
And finally let’s not forget all the mums and dads who, week in week out, do a terrific job of
taxi driving and ball spotting for their youngsters, along with support of the Tour itself.
The Paul Casey Trophy (U12)
With a full field of nearly 60 players the Surrey U12 County Championship, the Paul Casey
Trophy, took place on a beautiful May Sunday afternoon at Milford Golf Club. With players as
young as 7 years old taking part the future of Surrey junior golf was clearly on display.
The format for the Championship is 18 holes stroke play, in addition to this main competition
there were handicap prizes and a putting competition. Max Reid (Windlesham) won the putting
on countback from Luke Jones (Cuddington) in second, both players scoring 24 strokes, and
Harry Garnett (Bramley) in 3rd two strokes further back.
The handicap prize was won by Caled Strauss (Farnham) with a nett 57, with Joe McSweeney
(Farnham) in 2nd with a 60 and Reggie Fear in 3rd with a 63.
Onto the main competition of the day the scratch Championship, and what a close competition
we had with only one shot separating the top three players!
Two Cuddington players Kris Kim and Fredrick Gannon both shot 78’s with Kris just pushing his
Club mate into 3rd on countback.
The 2018 Championship was won by Leo Vorobyev of Windlesham with a fine 77 and this with
a quadruple on the par three 12th! But impressively Leo kept his composure and didn’t let it
affect him finishing with a superb birdie on the 18th to avoid a three-way tie and a play off.
Everyone then headed back to the clubhouse for the presentation of the prizes for the putting
competition, handicapped event and the scratch Championship, all were presented by County
President Jack Buchanan.
My thanks to Milford Golf Club for hosting the Championship, making everyone feel so
welcome and presenting the course in good condition. Also, a big thank you to all the
volunteers who spent the day on the course helping make it such a wonderful day for junior
golf and a wonderful day it was.

The Olga Mills Cup (U14) and The Usmar Salver (U13)
On a baking hot Sunday, 55 players made their way from various parts of the County to
Leatherhead Golf Club to compete for the U13 (Usmar Salver) & U14 (Olga Mills Cup) County
Championships.
Although in good condition, due to the hot weather we’ve had recently, the course was playing
tougher than normal and the players would need to adapt their games to the conditions, those
that didn’t suffered on their score cards!
The format for both the Championships is 18 holes stroke play off the white tees with an
