2018 saw some very familiar faces play for the U13’s. Some of these boys at such a young age
seem to have been around forever. The CAP & Rookie Tour ensures not only are those faces
familiar to myself but to each other, with some of these boys competing and playing together
for 3-4 years already. The continued numbers available and able to play and compete in these
matches is credit to the County, Rookie Tour, the clubs and professionals at these clubs, not to
mention the parental support.
2019 will be interesting with some good players moving to U14’s. The pool of U13’s will once
again be supported by the stronger U12’s. The performances and levels of wins will be hard to
follow but based upon U12’s results it should be interesting.
Just like the U12 friendly matches the Four Ball Better Ball format with 1pt for winning each
nine and 2pts for winning the match was used in some of the friendly matches.
The U13’s won their first match home to Essex, which was followed by wins against BB&O and
Hertfordshire in the same match.
The Triple Shield match between Surrey, Kent & Sussex was close after 9 but patience, coolness
in the face of battle and strong finishes by Surrey saw them retain the trophy from the previous
year. Surrey eventually beat Kent by 12 points and Sussex by 8 points.
