Mark also took charge of the two fixtures in October. The first saw us return for the annual
match and excellent lunch at Reigate Heath. As ever, a truly wonderful day of competitive golf
- and a hard fought half. The following weekend we were absolutely delighted to be welcomed
back to Roehampton. The match was a real tussle which was just edged by Roehampton -
Captain Andy was playing against us for the winning team!
We came up against scratch league runners up in the shape of Banstead Downs on
remembrance Sunday. A tight match resulted, but unfortunately another loss.
After a few false starts - Andy captained the match against Royal Mid Surrey in November. This
resulted in a comfortable victory and even more comfortable carvery lunch. The season was
brought to a close with the traditional Christmas match at Burhill. Another great day. Ben led a
team of 10 to a 4-1 victory.
We were treated exceptionally well at every venue with protected tee times, great food and
exceptional company. We had some really competitive games and welcomed back two fixtures
that had not been played for a few years.
We are looking to build the fixture list further and expand the squad of players. In total 45
players represented the County A Team in 2018 - far more than previous years. We played 12
matches and won 9 of them. We are extremely grateful for everyone who makes themselves
available to play.
We are looking to streamline the team selection process next year. Make sure the captains have
your email address. See you in 2019 !!!
COLTS 18 TO UNDER 26 FROM ALAN PAGE
England South East Group set up a new League in 2017 and we take part - the League is aimed at
the age group 18 to 25 and is designed to give players competitive County level golf.
SE Group split the Counties into two sections and we are in Colts West with Kent and Hampshire -
Colts East is Essex, Hertfordshire and Middlesex (not all Counties in the region take part).
Each group plays home and away matches against the other Counties so a total of four with
the winner going through to a Final against the winner of the other Group. We had a problem
with our away match against Kent and tried to postpone but they claimed the match so only
completed three - we still came second in the group with Kent winning.
Kent lost to Essex in the Final.
The League is important and aimed at a certain age group and I hope other Counties will get
involved over the coming years.
Our thanks to Bill Whiteman (Addington Palace) for being our Captain and we will take part
again in 2019.
