MEMBERSHIP Affiliated Clubs 107 + 5 Artisan Clubs The County lost one Club that closed its doors during 2018, Wildwood GC but gained a new one with Sunningdale Ladies moving affiliation from BB&O to Surrey, the Club then changed its name to Sunningdale Heath. CENTENARIES No Surrey Club will celebrate their Centenary until the year 2024. Purley Downs are celebrating their 125th anniversary in 2018. SUBSCRIPTIONS The subscriptions for 2019 have already been notified to Clubs and these have change due to an increase in England Golf fees. For this year the combined Surrey and England fee will be £17.00 per male playing member made up as follows: £8.00 to Surrey Golf and £9.00 to England Golf. Juniors will pay £6.00 to Surrey Golf and £9.00 to England. Members belonging to two or more Surrey Clubs will only pay one County affiliation fee. COUNTY CARD SCHEME A few years ago, it was agreed that, in order to stimulate green fee income, and to give added value to membership of a Surrey Club, a free county card would be given to all Surrey Club non-junior golfing members. This has proved most popular and will continue in 2019. The county card meetings were again well supported, giving Surrey members an opportunity to play the best courses in the county under competition conditions. The St George’s Hill event was brought back in 2018 and proved very popular, in addition in 2019 Burhill will be hosting an event. ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING As per 2018 the 2019 AGM will be held at Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club on Wednesday 3rd April and will be followed by the County lunch. THE GOLFING YEAR FROM THE COUNTY SECRETARY In the County Championships, two players stood out, Jacob Aaholm had a fantastic year winning the County Amateur, he followed this up by winning the Mid-Age Championship. In addition, he also won the Surrey Order of Merit and the Masters and deservedly got selected for the 1st Team. The other notable standout was a Junior, Harry Crockett who won both the U16 Championship and the U18 County Junior title, a feat not easy to achieve. Once again Surrey County participated fully in the inter-county matches and tournaments organised by the South East Group. Matches are now played against other Counties at every junior level, U12’s, U13’s, U14’s, U15’s, U16’s & U18’s as well as the Colts, First team and Seniors sides. As a result of our junior coaching programmes, the standard of our junior elite players continues to improve, with several of them representing their country, and with even more winning scholarships to USA universities. There is no doubt the RookieTour run by Bob Lacey is a key to this and is regarded by many as the engine room of Surrey Golf. A number of ex RookieTour players are now regulars in the Men’s 1st team, and there are plenty more showing good promise and coming through. Overall 2018 was not as successful for the older teams as we had hoped and expected it to be, but that certainly happens in most sports, sometimes you come so close, and yet so far. However, the younger teams had a better season, with the under 18 team winning the South- East Foursomes. The Under 14 team retained the Inter-County league for the 5th year, beating Kent in the final, they also retained the Sussex Salver against Hampshire & Sussex. Along with several friendly - 20 -
