As my two-year term as your President draws to a close I can reflect on the tremendous
effort that goes into making our wonderful game of golf so enjoyable and continues to
position Surrey Golf as the envy of most County Golf organisations.
I would like to thank the County staff and volunteers together with the Club
organisations that have contributed to my enjoyment over this period.
A particular thanks must go to the many golf professionals, and greenkeepers that
prepare players and courses so that players in Surrey may get maximum enjoyment from
this great game.
Surrey continues to flourish and is proud to have England players from junior through to
our seniors’ team. Congratulations must go to Angus Flanagan who won the Carris
Trophy against very stiff competition.
We are indeed fortunate to have the services of our head coach John Noble and also to
have a great role model as County Captain in David Corben
We have many terrific juniors coming through this year who have all enjoyed their golf
development with Surrey’s acclaimed and envied RookieTour programme which now
includes 160 boys and 40 girls. Appreciation for their efforts and the support of the
players’ families culminates in the annual prize-giving at Pine Ridge GC where in excess of
150 players are rewarded for their successes.
Without the support of the many Clubs that welcome the County to play matches,
competitions and host championships, we could not be the golfing force that we are,
and for this we offer a massive thank-you.
As you will appreciate, to organise and manage all aspects of County Golf, including
more than 150 events takes a huge amount of effort and financial investment.
We are very fortunate to have sponsors which include Fullers, Your Golf Travel,
Motocaddy and Bushnell and we are most grateful for their ongoing support.
Make 2017 another fun golfing year, and enjoy.
