At events like this we take very seriously not only the safety of the youngsters but also their enjoyment of the great game , and with the weather starting to show the required improvement the decision was made to go ahead with the competition and it was pleasing to have all the players and parents fully support the go ahead .
The format for this Championship is 18 holes scratch medal .
After battling round the 18 holes of Milford , which it has to be said played extremely well after receiving such a large amount of water from the heavens , the lads came in somewhat wet and bedraggled but amazingly still smiling . Several cards had to be re-written due to some very soggy ones but after all the scores were in Aiden Millham ( Windlesham ) was declared the U12 County Champion for 2016 , Kalyan Reddy ( Wimbledon Park ) was 2nd with Hashim Banday ( Royal Mid Surrey ) only a shot further back in 3rd .
Milford Golf Club was the venue for the 2016 Championship . With 35 eager competitors challenging for the trophy the weather was excellent as was the course , the greens in particular were in great shape and somewhat slick .

The Olga Mills Cup ( U14 ) and The Usmar Salver ( U13 )
On a lovely summers day at Malden Golf Club the County U13 and U14 Championships took place and produced a super day of junior golf . A record 58 competitors with handicaps ranging from 4 to 24 , with the youngest entrant aged just 8 years old showed just how strong junior golf in the County is .
With two Championships the format is 18 holes scratch medal , and although an U14 can obviously only win the U14 title an U13 player is eligible for both .
In the U13 category Windlesham member Shergo Kurdi took the Championship honours and the Usmar Salver with a fine 75 , four shots clear of Benjamin Brew ( Surbiton ) in 2nd with Jack Evans ( Royal Wimbledon ) taking 3rd on countback from Jack Osborne ( West Surrey ) and nine year old Oscar Lent ( Walton Heath ).
The Olga Mills Cup presented to the U14 Champion was won by Harry Crockett ( Addington Palace ) with a superb one over par 72 , just one shot ahead of Barnes Wallis ( Surrey National ) and three shots ahead of U13 winner Shergo Kurdi who finished 3rd .
Our thanks to Malden Golf Club Captain David Duncan for presenting the prizes , all the staff at the Club who looked after everyone so well and made everyone so welcome and of course the members for giving up their course for the day .
Also a big thank you to all the Surrey volunteers who gave up their time to ensure the event was so successful , without these people it would be very difficult to run these events .
Congratulations to 2016 Surrey Champions U14 ’ s Harry Crockett and U13 ’ s Shergo Kurdi .
