The biggest disappointment of the year was at the Seniors Six Man Qualifier at Littlestone when we
finished runner up to BB&O. We were in a commanding position after Day 1 only to wake on Day 2 to a
course ravaged by gales and consequently high scoring across the board and at the end of the day we
lost out narrowly to BB&O. In the last five years we have finished second three times so there is no
doubting our competitiveness. We just need to learn how to get across the finishing line.
In October we had the annual match against the Surrey Senior Ladies at Effingham. A most enjoyable day
with good golf played in an excellent spirit.
Our congratulations go to Keith Waters for not only retaining The Surrey Seniors Championship, held this
year at Woodcote Park, but also for taking the individual honours at the Six Man at Littlestone.
I’d also like to thank John Noble for his coaching and support during the year and also Pat Cunningham
(Vice-Captain) for his help throughout the year.
In the cold light of day second place in the Six Man was a good result finishing ahead of Hampshire,
Herts, and Kent but for all involved a big disappointment having been in a winning position. My first year
as Captain has been disappointing in terms of results achieved but not in the team spirit being built
across the squad and the support given to me by the players. As we plan for 2017 I am confident that
Surrey Seniors best years are just around the corner!
JUNIOR REPORTS FROM ALAN PAGE
2016 was a very busy year for this age group and some of the highlights were as follows,
U18 Captain
Our Captain for the year was Max O’Hagan (West Hill) who has represented Surrey at all age groups and
has an incredible win ratio for the County – a very worthy Captain.
U18 England Golf South East U18 Championship
The SE Region have introduced this new League and it includes 11 Counties split into 3 zones – we were
in the South zone with Hampshire, Kent and Sussex and all Counties play two away and one home
match on a round robin basis with the winner going through to the Final.
The other zones were Bedfordshire, Suffolk, Norfolk in the North Zone and Hertfordshire, BB&O, Essex
and Middlesex in the Central Zone.
After the round robin matches we beat Hampshire by 0.5pts to make it through to the final and play the
other Zone winners who were BB&O and Norfolk.
The final was played on a neutral course, Essendon Country Club in Herts, and after a very close match
we won and are the U18 SE Champions – a great achievement for all the players that took part during
the year.
In the final the team was Cameron Bell (Captain), Arrun Singh Brar, Harry Plowman-Ollington, Sam
Barthram, Scott Murray, Charlie Crockett, Lawrence Cortney and Alfie Fox.
England Golf SE Group qualifier
We take part in the SE Group qualifier and this run by England Golf and splits the Country into four
regions – we are the SE Group with 10 other Counties.
This year it was hosted by Norfolk on a very good course, Kings Lynn Golf Club.
We prepared well and took a very strong team of six golfers and only the winning team goes through to
the National Final.
The event is a 36 hole stroke play competition and after 18 holes we had a 5 shot advantage. In the
afternoon we did not perform as well and were o
