SURREY GOLF TEXT 2016_Surrey Golf Inside 06 03/03/2016 07:41 Page 5 GREETINGS TO YOU ALL FOR A NEW GOLFING YEAR Terry Christy 2015 was another great year for Surrey Golf. Our recent incorporation and new Board structure are working well and the combination of Jack Buchanan’s and John Davies’s management expertise and knowledge of the golfing industry have proved invaluable. With the significant changes in England Golf at all levels of administration and the pressures on young people’s time and finances encouraging them into other sports, it is gratifying to see Surrey Clubs succeeding by offering a variety of products and services to strengthen their membership position. Fortunately the decline in membership of Surrey Clubs has slowed considerably but has some way to go to return to the membership levels of 10 years ago. Our 2015 golfing successes continued, ranging from the unbelievably successful Rookie Tour under the watchful eye of Steve McNeill, to the Surrey Seniors with Ian Attoe winning the England Seniors Open Championship and Keith Waters winning the Surrey Seniors Championship and progressing to become England Seniors Champion of Champions. Surrey coaching remains in the very capable hands of our head coach John Noble who continues to develop the exceptionable skills of all our teams. We are blessed in Surrey with some of England’s finest courses and we thank those Clubs that welcome our county competitions, and to the members of those Clubs who adjust their playing habits to accommodate us. We are most grateful to our sponsoring organisations, particularly Nike, Fullers Brewery, Your Golf Travel, Motocaddy and Bushnell. My best wishes to you all for an enjoyable and successful golfing season in 2016. Terry Christy County President -5-
