The Surrey Junior Masters: Conor Cull (West Byfleet)
Rookie League
(Managers Steve McNeill & Carlton Campbell)
The 2015 U14 Rookie League was again a great success, and once underway there were some
close and competitive matches in the zone stage. Some clubs who had enough players were
allowed to enter two teams, although a player could only represent one team.Of the 20 Clubs
to enter two from each zone qualified for the quarter finals which were held at Pyrford Golf
Club. A special mention and thank you must be given to Pyrford who for the third year in
succession hosted the Quarter Final, Semi Final & Final.
As per the zone stage this knock out stage of the competition proved to be extremely
competitive and tight with several matches going to play off holes.
The draw for the Semi-Finals were Farleigh “B” v Burhill “A” Cuddington “B” v Burhill “B”.
Both Semi-Finals were well fought with Farleigh and Cuddington winning through to the Final.
The final proved to be one of the tightest ever with both teams playing some excellent and
exciting good golf. After 18 holes the score was one each so sudden death was required, for
this the first two pairings play off. With the light fading fast Farleigh’s Cameron Cridge won the
1st extra hole for his pair with a superb birdie.
Congratulations to Farleigh the 2015 Rookie League Winners and congratulations to all the
players who took part and represented their clubs so well.
Thank you to all the Rookie Committee members for their help and support.
In 2016 the Rookie League will be expanded to an U18 League so as to get more players
gaining match play experience.
