The clinic was set up so that any member of the public who came to the hospital that day and were triage to general surgery, were seen by the 5 doctors. The service was first come, first serve basis. Patients would line up for hours, usually starting around 5am. This was a classic morning of outpatients. and kindness of the Sri Lankan people is what makes this country so special. Sri Lanka is a place that I would highly recommend for elective. There is the opportunity to be exposed to an entirely different culture, amazing medical experience and the trip of a lifetime. Through this elective I learnt that healthcare in Australia is absolutely world class and that we as Australians and healthcare workers are very fortunate.
