NEUROANATOMY WORKSHOP
by Mahasha Perera, Director of Anatomy
T
he first event of SURGIA’s Anatomy portfolio
has been an incredible success, with over 50 Griffith
University Medicine students from the 2nd, 3rd,
and 4th years, attending the workshop. This year,
invitation to the Neurosurgical anatomy workshop
was offered to 2nd year medical students for the
first time ever, which allowed them to consolidate
and revise the information they have learnt for
their Brain, Mind and Body (BMB) exams. This was
additionally a great refresher for 3rd and 4th year
medical students who have less exposure to surgical
anatomy in their clinical years.
The inclusion of the radiology stations was also
thoroughly appreciated by the students, as there is
limited experience of such material both in clinical
practice and in formal teaching. The night would
not have been possible if not for the amazing efforts
of Erick Chan, Hayman Lui, Debbie Ho, Moein
Amin, Ricardo Thomas and Evon Jude. I would like
to sincerely thank QSCAN for their support and
generosity and I look forward to seeing you at our
next event – Clinical Orthopaedic Anatomy.
EVENT REPORT
Our demonstrators included Dr Chris Schwindack,
Dr Lakal Dissabandara, and Dr James Fitzgerald.
It is a rare opportunity for the students to
have experienced clinicians and teaching staff
accompanying them, whilst they learn cadaveric
anatomy. The students found the experience
invaluable as it immersed both anatomical concepts
with the clinical experiences of our facilitators.
