Corey Ziems wins
2014 Chiko QCC Series
The 2014 QCC kicked off
with the Chiko MP Classic, and for the first
time, an Association
of Surfing Professionals sanction and 1-Star
rating. The ASP sanction allows for World
Championship Tour athletes - the best surfers
in the world - to compete in events outside
of the World Championship Tour. For this reason, the Chiko MP Classic drew more competitors than ever before,
from all over the globe
to compete with the
world’s best.
6 – Winter IssuE
Hailed as the most competitive
field ever seen in a 1-star rated event, the Chiko MP Classic saw Top 32 ranked surfers Bede Durbidge and Adam
Melling pull on a Chiko rashie
for the first time.
With a date change to the
beginning of February, the
event was blessed with great
waves and was used by the
world’s best surfers as ‘a perfect warm up’ for the first
event of the 2014 World Tour,
the Quiksilver Pro.
With a final stacked with
some of surfing’s biggest
names, Lennox Head Wunderkind Michael Wright managed to carve out a win and
prove himself to be a force to
be reckoned with on a world
stage along with his World
Tour ranked siblings, Owen
and Tyler Wright.
In doing so, wright pocketed a cool $5,000 and a custom
Michael Peterson replica single fin - a board that any surfer worth their salt would want
hanging on their wall.
