HIF Queensland
Masters and
Women’s surfing
series
Alexandra Headland’s Sophie McCulloch will be
competing alongside her heroes at the 2015 ASP
Roxy Pro Trials after taking out the Open Women’s Queensland State Title at the second and final
event of the HIF Masters & Women’s series on the
Sunshine Coast.
McCulloch, 15, upset Snapper Rocks twins Brodie and Amiya
Doyle in the Open Women’s final of the event to post and overall
series win over Brodie Doyle.
Having faltered in her Under 18 Girls final earlier in the day,
McCulloch came out swinging with several untouchable scores
to post a total two-wave score of 14.23 and stop Jaleesa Vincent (Coolum, QLD – 10.47), Amiya Doyle (Snapper Rocks, QLD –
10.30) and Brodie Doyle (Snapper Rocks, QLD – 7.56) respectively.
Coolum finalist Vincent took advantage of her home break to win
the women’s HIF Wave of the Weekend and take home $250 in
prize money with a solid 9 point ride.

A big upset in the blue-ribbon Over 35 Men’s Final saw Coolangatta’s Trevor Gleave post a 12 point total in an otherwise quiet heat to best Mark Richardson (Palm Beach, QLD – 9.74), Dave
Reardon-Smith (Coolum, QLD – 8.40) and Regan Rogers (Coombabah, QLD – 6.84)
A tie in the race for the Over 35 Men’s State Title however, saw a
count back take place to eventually crown Masters rookie Reardon-Smith the over all Champion, with Richardson taking a
close second.
Both Laura Poncini (Moffat Beach, QLD) and Ellie Brooks (Elanora, QLD) made clean sweeps of their respective divisions with
Poncini winning the Under 18 Girls on both the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and Brooks winning the Under 21 Girls.
The HIF Queensland Masters and Women’s State surfing series
caters for female surfers ranging from under 16 girls to Over 35
Women and Over 35 Men to Over 55 Men.
