CHAIRMAN’S REPORT I am pleased to present the 2013 Surfing Queensland Annual General Report. Surfing Queensland has achieved significant sports development outcomes in 2013 which include the successful activation of the Breaka Burleigh Pro Men’s & Women’s World Star events and of course the 2013 Quiksilver & Roxy Pro which will be remembered for many years to come thanks to Kirra Point providing some of the best waves the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour witnessed in 2013. WELCOME TO THE SURFING QUEENSLAND 2013 ANNUAL GENERAL REPORT Gold Coast surfer Mitch Crews qualified for the elite ASP Men’s World Tour and will begin his 2014 campaign at the famed Snapper Rocks where Mitch will be able to compete on the world stage in front of his friends, family and of course his local Boardriders club, Snapper Boardriders. Another Queensland athlete who qualified for the elite ASP World Tour in 2013 was Sunshine Coast surfer Dimity Stoyle. After years of determination, 2013 was the year that Dimity was able to claim her rightful stake on the 2014 elite Women’s World Tour. The professional arm of surfing undertook substantial changes with the ASP being acquired by Zosea media which has been the largest change to the structure of the sport in recent times and Surfing Queensland successfully negotiated management rights to the 2014 Quiksilver & Roxy Pro. to claim his third World Title in Hawaii. Under immense pressure, Mick was able to deliver one of his finest performances to claim the title. 2013 became a year of reflection for the surfing community within Queensland after the sudden loss of Allan Byrne, one of the world’s most respected surfboard shapers, famous for producing his hand shaped channel bottom boards. Allan will be missed by many in the worldwide surfing community and remembered as a loving husband, father, great
