Event Management encompasses a large portion of Surfing Queensland’s overall
operations with Surfing Queensland activating over 30 events annually from
Coolangatta to Yeppoon, and just about everywhere in between.
Surfing Queensland employs a full time Events Manager as well as two Media
and Communications Managers to ensure competitors and sponsors alike
that the product delivered by Surfing Queensland is second to none. It is this
dedication to event management that has enabled Surfing Queensland to be
recognised as worldwide leaders in the management of surfing events.
In 2013, Surfing Queensland continued to deliver excellence in event
management.
The 2013 season kicked off with the Breaka Burleigh Pro Men’s and Women’s
World Qualifying Series events at Burleigh Headland. Shortly thereafter, the
Quiksilver & Roxy Pro took place at Snapper Rocks.
The Surfing Queensland events team then travelled north for our annual event
activations at Yeppoon and Agnes Water. From then on, it was a host of state
qualification platforms in respective disciplines as athletes vied for a position in
their respective Queensland teams.
The Chiko Queensland Championship Circuit delivered action aplenty across
the four event series which culiminated in a down-to-the-wire finish at Burleigh
Heads with Nick Vasicek defeating Mitchell Parkinson for overall honours.
Several other event highlights throughout 2013 were the inaugural Australian
SUP & Paddle Festival which took place at Currumbin Alley and the inception and
delivery of the Jallum Jarjums ‘Fish Kids’ Indigenous Surfing Program which saw
Indigenous participants soaking up the sport of surfing and all of the benefits
that it has to offer. The Jallum Jarjums program also provided the opportunity for
six Indigenous participants to become accredited level 1 Surf Coaches as part of
an employment ready component of the program.
State Champion’s were crowned at Surfing Queensland events which cater for all
surfing disciplines such as shortboard, longboard, stand up paddle, prone paddle
and bodyboarding
