WAHU CAMPS PARTICIPANTS EXCEED EXPECTATIONS IN 2017 E njoying great surf and the highest level of coaching, standout competitors from the 2016/17 Wahu Surfer Groms Comps presented by Woolworths reaped the benefits of two Wahu Surf Camps at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC) in March. PLAY VIDEO Eighteen junior surfers, who won the Under 14 divisions during the series held across Australia in summer, enjoyed an all-expenses paid training program at respective boys' and girls' camps at the HPC. For the South Australian and Victorian events, the Wahu Surf Camp prize was awarded to the highest placed U14 Boy & Girl who reside in that respective State. The surfers at the boys' camp included: Joel Vaughan, Jarvis Earle, Axel Rose-Curotta, Grayson Hinrichs, Willis Droomer, Ruka Taite, Archer Curtis, Marlon Harrison and Jay Robinson. Axel Rose-Curotta (Freshwater, NSW) was judged the best and fairest surfer at the boys’ Wahu Surf Camp and took home the Woolworths Fresh Wave Award. The surfers at the girls' camp, included: Carly Shanahan, 048 | Issue 16 // Winter 2017 Charlie Hurst, Lily MacDonald, Jasmine Riggs, Sage Goldsbury, Imogen Elliot, Ellia Smith, Raya Campbell and Coral Durant. Coral Durant (The Bluff, WA) was judged the best and fairest surfer at the girls’ Wahu Surf Camp and took home the Woolworths Fresh Wave Award. During each camp, the aspiring young athletes were put through their paces with a combination of surfing and video analysis, competition strategies and strength and gymnastics training. “The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps presented by Woolworths is the funnest series I have ever done, you have so many cool games to play and so many things to do on the beach like kicking a Wahu ball to warm-up,” said camp participant Marlon Harrison.
