“We are extremely excited about the Subway® Surf Series and the fact it will also act as the WSL Australasian Junior Qualifying Series, offering Australian junior surfers seven fantastic events across five states in iconic surf locations.” Proudly supported by WSL, Surfing Australia and Billabong, the Subway® Surf Series was created to fill a competition void which exists at a crucial point in the development of Australia’s leading junior surfers. It represents an important link in the ‘pathway to the podium’ developed by Surfing Australia, with surfers now able to progress from the Weet-Bix SurfGroms program, onto the Wahu Surfer Groms Comps, into the Subway® Surf Series, followed by the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle. Gina Kahler, Regional Marketing Director, Subway® Australia and New Zealand, said she was delighted the Subway® Surf Series was entering its second year. “Subway® Restaurants fuels Australian consumers with the energy they need to go and get the most out of life, which is exactly what our junior surfers are doing. “We hope the Subway® Surf Series continues to inspire young Australians to be healthy and active this summer - to eat well - and go do the things they love to do,” Kahler concluded. WSL World Tour female competitor Laura Enever also joins Parkinson as an ambassador for the Subway® Surf Series, attending events and mentoring junior surfers. “I’m so happy to see the partnership with the Subway® Surf Series and the WSL. The Pro Junior Qualifying Series was such an important part of my junior career and it’s great that the kids coming through the ranks today will have the same opportunities with these events added. It gives them so much to work towards and look forward too. I can’t wait to watch.” Enever said. .COM SPRING 2015 ISSUE 13 | 51
