WEET-BIX ON BOARD AS NEW SURFGROMS MAJOR SPONSOR The catchphrase, ‘We hope you’ve had your Weet-Bix,’ will soon be bought back to life by frothing groms across Australian beaches. Surfing Australia recently announced that SurfGroms was back and better than ever for a fifth year, with a brand new major sponsor in Sanitarium Weet-Bix, for the next three years. SurfGroms was launched in October 2011 and has seen more than 40,000 Australian children experience the thrill of surfing for the first time. The iconic cereal’s Senior Brand Manager Alex Garas said that WeetBix was proud to partner with the Surfing Australia SurfGroms program “Sanitarium is passionate about inspiring Aussies to lead a healthy and active life and this program is an exciting way for kids to enjoy fun, friendship and physical activity,” Alex said. Registrations for the latest programs have been opened just in time for summer. Weet-Bix SurfGroms offers youngsters aged 5-12 years an opportunity to learn to surf while developing strong ocean awareness and beach safety skills at a very influential period in their lives. Weet-Bix SurfGroms programs are available through the Surfing Australia Surf Schools Network with more than 80 delivery centres around the country. Parents who wish to register their children can visit www.surfgroms. com – for contact details and delivery centre locations. To extend the reach of the program, Weet-Bix SurfGroms will also be offering youngsters the opportunity to learn how to Stand-up Paddleboard (SUP). Surfing Australia has developed this program as part of the Weet-Bix SurfGroms experience to teach kids how to SUP safely and confidently. Also in the program’s favour was the Australian Sports Commission’s initiative, Sporting Schools. The federal government initiative encourages primary school kids to get active in sport around the country – which will include the delivery of Weet-Bix SurfGroms before; during; or after school. Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark is ecstatic about the new partnership. “Weet-Bix are such an iconic Australian brand and an absolute perfect fit partner who share a common purpose to create healthier and happier Australians,” Andrew said. “Weet-Bix will help elevate the program status to new heights nationally and we very much look forward to working with Weet-Bix and the Sanitarium group over the next three years,” he said. .COM SPRING 2015 ISSUE 13 |9
