the necessary pumps and instrumentation as
part of the overall solution and we make sure
we work with like-minded suppliers. Our
packages for field trials are tailored to the
end-users’ specific requirements. This means
that, not only can we supply the lime itself,
but we will also design and supply the
storage and dosing system for the material.
We like to think of ourselves as lime

More generally, Lhoist’s chemicals and lime
manufacturing expertise, allows us to
respond to the water industry’s ongoing
focus on environmental stewardship. For
water companies, there is increasing pressure
for them to respond to the requirements of
modern living. For example, water-stressed
areas are becoming more stressed, and the
treatment requirements are becoming tighter
and tighter every year – this is true on a
global level. How do these utilities deal with
the demands of population increase, industry
increase, water scarcity and wastewater
requirements?
Across the applications with which Lhoist
deals, we’re active in various R&D projects,
including both water and sludge. Industry
feedback is valuable in this process, so it’s
important to have a dialogue which will help
us improve the efficiency of our reagents,
address security of supply issues and, what
everyone wants, to do more with less!
When it comes to these environmental
challenges, the UK has a leading role to play
to bring about the required sustainability.
Lhoist’s global reach allows it to understand
what is being done and where in terms of
water and wastewater requirements and,
crucially, to gain an insight into where future
legislation may guide specific industry
sectors, as well as industry in general. It is a
dynamic situation but, looking further ahead,
we are going to see significant changes to
avoid major disruption.
